Four British Karaoke Firms Face Ruin
SBI Global, Zoom Entertainments, Mr Entertainer and Music Factory all face closure and ruin after a court decision. The total costs involved are around £528m This is around $737m in American dollars
The UK firms make karaoke tracks and have no problem with the UK or the rest of Europe as they have paid royalties on them. But apparently, not on the American sales where they didn't have permission to sell.
So, the attack on the karaoke scene continues it appears and at this rate, there will be no karaoke makers

That's a lot of cash
It really does highlight how much the music business is protective of itself and how greedy they are!

I think it must be the American way because they tend to lay it on and sometimes things don't look fair.
I hope these karaoke firms have a successful appeal.

Re: Four British Karaoke Firms Face Ruin
This case has nothing to do with disc sales, it all stems from downloads sold via Tricerasoft to the US. I believe Sunfly were also named in the original case but settled out of court.
The amount is based on notional damages of $150,000 per track which was made available on Tricerasoft, not on actual sales.
That basically sums it up.
Re: Four British Karaoke Firms Face Ruin
Good news providing Sunfly keep on going. If true, then I think we have a firm that may still dominate the market for years to come. Maybe, its true that survival of fittest has kicked in here.
